India's Polio Win:
In January, India marked an incredible achievement: one year since the country's last reported case of polio. That is cause for celebration -- not just in India but around the world. Twenty years ago, there were more than 100 polio-endemic countries; now, only three remain. For more information click

A big thank you to all who came out to load the container being sent to Computers for Schools Kenya on March 31st. The medical equipment and supplies will be of great assistance to two district hospitals. Our work does make a real difference to those in need.

Donald MacRae Peace Award
The Rotary World Help Network of BC has been awarded the Donald MacRae Peace Award. This award is given annually to the individual or group of Rotarians in Canada, Alaska or the Russian Republic, which has made the greatest contribution to international peace through its humanitarian work. The Rotary World Help Network of BC comprises 37 Rotary clubs, with 1,600 members, located throughout BC. Since its founding in 1997, working with Rotary partners in developing countries, the Network has sent 270 containers of medical and educational equipment and supplies to 51 developing countries. The value of these shipments is estimated at $95 million.
The Network has forged links with many dozens of institutions and businesses in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and beyond. When they are upgrading equipment or closing down a wing of a facility, these partners look to the Network to extend the useful life of their equipment and keep it from landfill. The Network also acts in concert with other BC-based charities, providing assistance and content for containers sponsored by them. In this way, the Network and its BC partner-institutions have made a significant difference in the lives of tens of thousands of the world’s poorest citizens.
The award was received in Boston on August 26 by Penny Offer, a past Rotary District Governor, on behalf of the Network. It was presented to the Network at a special luncheon meeting October 4, hosted by the Rotary Club of Vancouver at the Terminal City Club.
